Imad Mahgoub, Ph.D.
Tecore Endowed Chair Professor
Dr. Imad Mahgoub, the Tecore Endowed Chair Professor, is a professor of computer science and engineering and the director of Tecore Networks Laboratory at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). His research interests include mobile computing, vehicular ad hoc networks, wireless sensor networks, and parallel and distributed systems. He has more than 180 publications, including four books. He received research funds from federal government agencies and the industry. He is on the editorial board of the International Journal of Communication Systems. He served on the editorial board of the International Journal of Computers and Applications and the Encyclopedia of Wireless and Mobile Communications. He has served as chair, vice chair, track chair, posters chair, publicity chair, and program committee member for many international conferences and symposia. He is a senior member of the IEEE and a member of the IEEE Communications Society.
Postdoctoral Researchers
Monika Rathod, Ph.D.
Dr. Monika Rathod is an instructor and post-doctoral researcher in the Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at FAU. She was previously a database administrator at Daleen Technologies, Inc. and is currently a software engineering consultant and database administrator with DNA Labs International. Her undergraduate degree is in biology, and she has master’s degrees in computer engineering as well as business administration. She earned her Ph.D. in computer engineering from FAU. Her research interests include wireless sensor networks, wireless broadcast, body area networks, and vehicular networking. She is currently working on the SmartDrive initiative, developing vehicular networking protocols, and is a member of the IEEE.

Hamzah Al-Najada, Ph.D. Candidate
Hamzah Al-Najada is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Computer Science 2005 and 2011 respectively, from Albalqa’ Applied University, Jordan. His primary research interest is in big data mining and analytics with the focus on Vehicular Networks and intelligent transportation systems. Hamzah, have used machine learning in designing Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSs) that have the potential in improving the traffic flow and decreasing fatalities due to traffic accidents. Hamzah also has over than 7 years of technical and academic experience working at the University of Jordan in Amman, Jordan.
Mohammed Alhameed, Ph.D. Candidate
Mohammed Alhameed received the B.Sc. degree in Computer Science with honors from King Abdul-Aziz University (KAU), Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in 2007. He also received the M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from Arizona State University in 2013. Mohammed has worked as an academic staff member, teacher assistant and then a lecturer, at the Department of Computer Science, College of Computer Science and Information Systems, Jazan University, Gizan, Saudi Arabia. His research interests include Beaconing Approaches and Broadcasting Protocols in Vehicular Networks.
Chad Mandy, Ph.D. Candidate
Chad Mandy graduated with an M.S. in Computer Engineering in August 2016. He received both his Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from FAU in May 2015.. Throughout his collegiate career, Chad has been awarded numerous recognitions, such as Dean’s list, President’s list, the Faculty Award for Outstanding Leadership, and has completed the Innovation Leadership Honors Program. In addition to his academics, Chad has also been involved in IEEE, Tau Beta Pi and was a Founding Father of the Engineering Fraternity “Triangle” at Florida Atlantic University. He is currently focused on his thesis, which deals with the IEEE 1609.2 Security Services standard for VANET.
Imran Mohammed, Ph.D. Student
Imran Mohammed is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He received his MSCE degrees in Computer Science from FAU.
Hamid Akbarian, Ph.D. Candidate
Hamid Akbarian is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He received his B.Sc. and MSCE degrees in Computer Engineering from FAU in 1999 and 2001 respectively. Hamid has over 15 years of experience as a Software System Engineer working for companies like Motorola, General Dynamics, and Northrop Grumman. He is currently a computer scientist at U.S. Navy at Naval System Command at Patuxent River MD. His primary research interests are in UAV interoperability protocols, recovery of loss communication in UAVs, collaborative learning in autonomous systems, Service Oriented Architecture in an intense software system, and Applied Open Architecture in Avionics.
Henley Wright, Ph.D. Candidate
Henley Wright is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He received his B.Sc. and MSC degrees in Computer Engineering from Florida Atlantic University in 2012 and 2014 respectively. Henley has over 5 years of industry experience working with various platforms and programming languages, his work has also included Software Testing and Requirement Engineering. Current internets involve dynamic internet programming, cloud computing, and mobile computing. Henley’s primary research area includes Traffic enhancement using VANET, and the implementation of vehicular cloud.

Ohoud Alzamzami, Ph.D. (May 2018)
Dr. Ohoud Alzamzami received her Ph.D. degree in computer science from the Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at FAU. She has received her B.Sc. degree in computer science with honors from King Abdul-Aziz University (KAU), Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in 2000. She also received the M.Sc. degree in computer science with honors from the same University in 2009. She has worked as an academic staff member, teacher assistant and then a lecturer, at the Department of Computer Science, College of Computing and Information Technology, King Abdul-Aziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from 2001 to 2009. Her research interests include routing and information dissemination in VANET, Vehicular Sensor Networks, Wireless Sensors Networks, Wireless Body Area Networks, and mobile computing.

Steve Glass, Ph.D. (December 2017)
Dr. Steve Glass received his Ph.D. degree in computer engineering from the Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at FAU. He is a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff (R&D) at Motorola Solutions Inc. He maintains overall responsibility for the common packet data architecture of handheld public safety subscribers worldwide. This involves the development of the overall software architecture within all MSI handheld devices and technically managing teams located in numerous sites across the planet. This development includes all phases from Voice of Customer and top-level requirements through architecture, design, implementation, test, and release. Steve was recently selected as an associate of the Motorola Science Advisory Board which represents the top 2% of engineers at Motorola. He holds patents in the fields of network topology management and networking protocols. Steve has spent 29 years in the United States Marine Corps focused on Communications-Electronics as well. His research interests include anything related to computer science. Steve holds a private pilots license, is a certified full cave diver, and enjoys spending his copious free time with his family and friends.

Elnaz Limouchi, Ph.D. (August 2017)
Dr. Elnaz Limouchi received her Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at FAU. She received her B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering (2006) and M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering and Telecommunication Systems (2011) from Islamic Azad University, Iran. Her primary research interests lie in Vehicular Networks with a focus on MAC layer and Resource Allocation.

Joanne Sirois, Ph.D. (August 2017)
Dr. Joanne Sirois received her Ph.D. degree in computer science from the Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at FAU. Joanne graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University with a Bachelor’s in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics April 2009. She immediately went on to pursue her Masters in Computer Science at Florida Atlantic University and at the same time her MBA at Florida Gulf Coast University. She graduated May 2010 with both degrees. Joanne’s general research area is Vehicle Networks. Her research interests include applications of VANETs and VANET communication protocols. Lately, her focus has been on improving VANET communication protocols.

Lina Altoaimy, Ph.D. (May 2016)
Dr. Lina Altoaimy received her Ph.D. degree in computer science from the Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at FAU. She received her B.Sc. degree in Computer Applications (2002) and M.Sc. degree in Computer Science (2006) from King Saud University, Saudi Arabia. Her primary research interests lie in Vehicular Networks with a focus on localization and determining the vehicle’s accurate position specifically for critical safety applications.

Wilmer Arellano, Ph.D. (May 2016)
Dr. Wilmer Arellano received his Ph.D. degree in computer engineering from the Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at FAU. Dissertation in the area of Traffic Assignment in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs). Wilmer obtained his Master of Science in Electronic Engineering in 1982 with the focus in Telecommunications, Electromagnetism, and Digital Signal Processing; he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1974 with the focus in Instrumentation and Television; both from Universidad Simón Bolívar in Venezuela. Currently employed at Florida International University as a full-time instructor.

Sheryl LaFleur, Ph.D. (December 2014)
Dr. LaFleur earned her Master of Science in Computer Science from Southern University (A HBCU), Baton Rouge Louisiana in 1991; she also received her Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1988. Miss LaFleur has participated in the Graduate and Professional Student Association (GPSA), where she served as the Representative for the College of Engineering and Computer Science. While pursuing her degree, Miss LaFleur worked as a graduate assistant and teaching assistant for the Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (CEECS) department. She also teaches as an Adjunct Professor in the Computer Science department at Palm Beach State College in Boca Raton, Florida. Miss LaFleur has presented her research at the 8th International Conference on Body Area Networks (BodyNets 2013) and workshops including the Proceeding of ICST (Institute for Computer Sciences, Social-Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering). In addition, Miss LaFleur has published her research in the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Journal. Miss LaFleur’s dissertation, in the area of personal body networks, is titled “ A personal body area network as a pre-screening surrogate to the polysomnography”. She earned her doctorate in December 2014.

Michael Slavik, Ph.D. (May 2011)
Dr. Michael Slavik received his Ph.D. degree in computer engineering from the Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at FAU. He is currently the Chief Technical Officer of Inventure Track. He was previously a Senior Research and Design Engineer at tkLABS Technology Solutions and a software engineer for Motorola, Inc. in the iDEN and WiMAX handset development group. His research interests include vehicular networking, multi-hop wireless broadcast, wireless sensor networks, distributed computing, and machine learning.

Jamil Ibriq, Ph.D. (May 2007)
Dr. Jamil Ibriq is an adjunct professor at Florida Atlantic University. He received his MS degree in computer science and his Ph.D. degree in computer engineering from FAU as well. He has numerous publications on secure routing in sensor networks. His research interests include key management in wireless sensor networks, secure routing, secure multicasting, encryption algorithms, and time synchronization in mobile ad hoc and wireless sensor networks.

Ahmed Alwakeel, M.Sc. (May 2016)
Ahmed Alwakeel graduated with an M.S. in Computer Science in May 2016. He graduated from Taibah University, Saudi Arabia. His thesis for Interactive E-learning using mobile phones was qualified for the annual competition in Saudi Arabia for scientific research. Ahmed’s research won second place in the competition and was awarded a certificate for his achievement. Ahmed worked as an academic staff member, teacher assistant and then a lecturer, at the Department of Computer Science, College of Computing and Information Technology in Tabuk University, Saudi Arabia. Ahmed’s current research interests lie in Vehicular Networks with a focus on protocols and simulation of the network.
Alain Edwards, M.Sc. (August 2016)
Alain Edwards graduated with an M.S. in Electrical Engineering in August 2016. Alain has been the recipient of numerous awards including being on the Dean’s List 4 times throughout his Undergraduate career. He graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering. He was also the recipient upon graduation of the Engineering College’s “Outstanding Academic Achievement Award.” Alain holds a Certificate in Small Business Management from Rochester Institute of Technology (where he was enrolled in the College of Engineering prior to his transferring to Florida Atlantic University). Alain has worked on numerous projects including working with Jaime Borras former Motorola IDEN. Alain continues to pursue his career goals by being a part of the research team at Florida Atlantic University on the continuation of the IEEE 1609.4 standard for VANET. He is a highly motivated and ardent worker who continues to pursue a strong interest in mobile computing and security. His lifelong goal is to “change the world through engineering.”
